The course aims to familiarize students with the basic concepts of floriculture and to impart the necessary knowledge and skills related to the production, propagation and use of ornamental plants. Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to know the classification of ornamental plants into categories (botanical classification), their growing environment (environmental and greenhouse conditions), its influence on the growth and flowering of plants, the ways and techniques of cultivation of many ornamental plants (fertilization, the basic principles of natural and asexual propagation, the diseases and pests affecting ornamental plants, the basic issues concerning ornamental plant production units and the ways of handling and marketing ornamental plants in Greece and abroad.
